Huge thanks to Pedro Costa (a busy man!) who took loads of time (and made me coffee!) to chat about his enterprise – the label Clean Feed Records, a label dedicated mostly to creative, contemporary jazz music, a label that Pedro started in Lisbon in 2001.
In his cosy office in Parede (very close to SMUP, indeed) we spoke about his sense of the Portuguese improvised music scene and its development over the last few years as well as his newer label, called Shhpuma, which according to the label’s vision focuses “mainly on the Portuguese creative music scene, but [is] open to releasing vibrant and vital music by committed artists from all over the globe”.
Thanks to Clean Feed and Pedro for taking the time to chat !
Great pleasure to be back at Sonoscopia, Porto where Gustavo Costa organised a whole bunch of improvisers to talk to. And… we had the pleasure to have lunch in Felipe Silva’s newly opened vegetarian/vegan restaurant.
Edited videos will be archived on the Video Tab.

Managed to do a short workshop at Nova University (CESEM) on the 14th October 2016. Great to feel that it’s something the music curriculum could actually integrate and I do think it’s needed. Maybe the students will start their own group.
There was already quite a bit of expertise there.
Nice to have the chance to explore yet another Lisbon venue for experimental music making – Zaratan.
It was primarily established as an art gallery, but Bernardo Álvares has been programming experimental music gigs here for some time. You can hear him speak about Zaratan and specifically the music series he curates there, called Letimotiv.
Delighted to have been asked by Prof Isabel Pires from the research group at the Center for the study of sociology, and musical aesthetics (CESEM, Nova University Lisbon) to give a talk on the work I have done in Brazil in 2014 and to give an initial insight into the work that I am currently doing here in Portugal. Happening on: 10 – October – 2016.
